Oxford’s most famous eatery

Posted on 10 October 2007

Oxford’s most famous eatery is Brown’s Restaurant, 5-11 Woodstock Road. The fame of Brown’s is probably due to generations of students who could afford the reasonably priced meat pies and stews on the menu. While certainly a good value brassiere, Brown’s is not a culinary treat. Freud on Walton Street also offers affordable food, late night service, and an energizing student atmosphere.

With its’ impressive bar, Freud is a wonderful venue for art shows, music and dancing, all of which take place in the neo-classical building. For a quieter meal with a French accent, try Pierre Victoire Restaurant at 9 Little Clarendon Street. The menu changes daily and the food is exquisite.

For a romantic evening in Oxford, Rosamund the Fair docked at Castlemill Boatyard offers evening dinner cruises with glorious views of Oxford. Call (01865) 553370 for bookings.
